Dr Scott Eaton’s TELEHEALTH waiting room
Dr Scott Eaton was trained in Psychiatry in Cambridge (UK). Here he developed his interest in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (the treatment of mental illness in the physically unwell). After moving to Australia and passing the local specialist exams (FRANZCP) he has been involved in delivering care in the Bendigo region for over 25 years in both the public and private sectors. In 2020 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Collage of Psychiatrists (UK) (FRCPsych) “…as a mark of distinction and recognition for significant contributions to psychiatry”.
He was previously an Adjunct Senior Clinical Lecturer at the School of Psychology and Psychiatry Monash University for over 10 years, and has had a number of peer reviewed publications; the most recent covering treatment in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has previously worked with Young Adults for Headspace Bendigo as an outreach from the clinic.
He is a Past President of the Rural Association of Psychiatrists of Victoria, and has held the post of Secretary to the Section of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He is now a member of the Committee for Examinations (CFE) within the RANZCP and is also and accredited member of the Faculty for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry within the RANZCP. His role on the CFE sees him travelling across the country and the Tasman, developing and organising exams for trainee psychiatrists, and training examiners to ensure that those exams attain the standards demanded by the RANZCP.
As well as offering his skills as a General Adult Psychiatrist in the Sternberg Clinic, Dr Eaton has developed a special interest in patients with Intellectual Disability and in patients with physical illness and mental health problems. More recently he has developed skills to address the difficulties experienced by his large case load of patients with work related or armed service related psychological injuries. He is an accredited EMDR therapist and a member of the EMDRAA (emdr-faq). – EMDR is a recognised therapy for trauma.
During his career he has had training and supervision in delivering a number of psychotherapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Cognitive Analytical Therapy.
Scott Eaton is the main author for the Sternberg Clinic blog. He has found that the digital revolution has greatly expanded the availability of new up-to-date treatments and practices to the clinician. Many agencies from across the globe produce reviews and guidelines and these can all be useful to the modern health professional. The blog has become a place where some of that distilled information can be presented in what we hope is an easily readable format.
